Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-04-20
We believe privacy policies should be readable. This document explains what data we collect when you use YaySpinner, why we collect it, and what control you have over it. We've tried to keep the legal-speak to a minimum.
Overview
YaySpinner ("https://yayspinner.com") is a free online wheel spinner and random picker tool. We operate under the principle that a spinner wheel shouldn't need to know your life story to work.
Most features on YaySpinner work without any account or personal information at all. Your wheel data stays in your browser's local storage unless you explicitly choose to save it to the cloud. We don't sell your data to anyone, period.
What We Collect
We collect different types of information depending on how you use the site:
Automatically collected (everyone)
- Basic analytics: Page views, referring URLs, country-level location, browser type, and screen size. This helps us understand which features people actually use.
- Performance data: Load times and error reports so we can fix issues quickly.
When you create an account
- Authentication info: Your email address and display name, provided through Google Sign-In or email/password registration.
- Saved wheels: If you use cloud sync, your wheel configurations (entries, colors, settings) are stored securely in our database.
What we don't collect
We don't collect your phone number, physical address, payment information, or any biometric data. We don't track you across other websites.
How We Use It
The data we collect is used for exactly four things:
- Running the service — saving your wheels, loading your settings, authenticating your account.
- Improving the product — understanding which features are popular, identifying bugs, and making the experience faster.
- Keeping things secure — preventing abuse, blocking spam submissions, and monitoring for unusual activity.
- Serving ads — our advertising partners use cookies to serve relevant ads. More on that below.
Advertising
YaySpinner is free because of advertising revenue. We use Google AdSense to display ads on the site. Google may use cookies to serve ads based on your interests and browsing history.
You can manage your ad preferences through Google's Ad Settings. We do not serve personalized ads to users we know are under 13 years old, in compliance with COPPA.
Third-Party Services
We use a small number of trusted third-party services to operate YaySpinner:
- Firebase (Google) — Authentication, database, and hosting infrastructure.
- Google Analytics — Anonymous usage analytics.
- Google AdSense — Ad delivery and monetization.
- Vercel — Web hosting and deployment.
Each of these services has their own privacy policy. We encourage you to review them if you're curious about how your data is handled downstream.
Where Your Data Lives
If you use YaySpinner without an account, your wheel data lives entirely in your browser's local storage. It never touches our servers. Clearing your browser data will delete it.
If you sign in and use cloud sync, your data is stored in Firebase (operated by Google) with servers primarily in the United States. All data transfers to and from our servers are encrypted using HTTPS/TLS.
Your Rights
Regardless of where you live, you have the right to:
- Access your data — Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Delete your data — Ask us to remove your account and all associated data permanently.
- Correct your data — Update inaccurate information in your account.
- Opt out of tracking — Disable analytics cookies via your browser settings.
For users in the EU (GDPR) and California (CCPA), these rights are legally guaranteed. To exercise any of these rights, email us at [email protected]. We'll respond within 30 days.
Children's Privacy
YaySpinner is designed to be used by people of all ages, including in educational settings. However, we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental consent, in compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
If you believe a child under 13 has created an account or submitted personal information, please contact us immediately at [email protected] and we will delete it promptly.
Policy Updates
We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. When we make significant changes, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
We won't quietly change the policy in ways that reduce your rights. If we ever make a major change to how we handle your data, we'll notify signed-in users via email.
